SMARTboards

What is a SMARTboard you ask? A SMARTboard is an interactive whiteboard produced by the Smart Technologies. The SMARTboard is a white board that acts like your comptuer screen. If you are an educator and have no seen one of these you need to, they will change your feeling on education as a whole. But please make sure to be shown by someone who knows how to use the software or they can be a bit overwhelming and confusing. One blog group that I found is podcasting their lessons about using the SMARTboard every day is the SMARTBoard Lessons Podcast blog. This site offers many insites to the board and how it works. It is also nice that they include lesson plans that you can work straight off of in your own classroom. I know I will be keeping my eye on them in the upcoming months (even without a SMARTboard in my student teaching classroom).

Hi Annie,

We have a few Smart Boards in our school district, but we've moved to ActivBoard's by Promethean
( http://www.prometheanworld.com & http://www.prometheanplanet.com ). The district has approved a $14 million dollar contract to put ActivBoards in every instructional classroom & media center.

After using both boards I have come to the conclusion that the ActivBoards are more useful to the teacher. They only need one pen, it works on radio waves, not a battery and does many colors, not just a few. They have speakers attached, a DVD/VCR attached and the coax for the cable TV can run through it also. You can put a document camera, an ELMO or any other device between the computer and the ActivBoard.

It's just an all in one learning center. It's the center of the lesson, take a look, I think you'll like them.....Plus, the ActivBoardr is mounted on the wall on a rail that lets you change it's height based on your students. Also, the projector is mounted on an arm above the ActivBoard to keep it out of the way and cut down on the shadow.
